Anti-Aging Medicine: Myth Or Reality?

Is Anti-Aging Medicine For Real?

By: Pamela Egan, NP, ABAAHP Diplomat

August 05, 2009 – What is the fountain of youth that we are all in search of? Is there a magic pill that can extend life? Researchers are “hot” to find the secret to reverse aging. There is a growing body of evidence that the human life span can be extended, just look at the Okinawans who live active lives to120. But it’s not just an extension of life that we are searching for but the possibility of living productive, happy and disease-free in our latter years. Anti-Aging Medicine strives to correct imbalances in hormones, nutrition, toxins, mind and body, allowing our body to stay healthy and prevent disease.

Anti-Aging Medicine

For the last two decades, Anti-Aging Medicine proves a 90% resolution of symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, decreased libido, weight gain, anxiety, depression, muscle and joint pains and decreased mental function. It also results in an 80% resolution of disease states such as fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, gastric reflux, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, PMS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, infertility and in teenagers, ADD, anxiety and sleep disorders; and thus, the pursuit for anti-aging medicine.

Anti-aging medicine applies advanced technologies for early detection, prevention and reversal of age-related disease. There is a growing body of data supporting the reality of anti-aging medicine, while disproving the perception that it is a myth.

Restoring balance means optimizing cell function to keep us healthy, happy, energetic, prevent cancer and coronary artery disease. When you correct deficiencies of hormones, nutrients, remove toxins, maintain a strong, pain free body, and restore spirituality, you can prevent disease. Remember, disease is a manifestation of imbalance.

For example, Weight gain is a result of imbalances in hormones, nutrients, toxicities, and mental stress. Cognitive decline (brain fog) results from hormone deficiencies, nutrient deficiencies, toxicities, mind imbalances, especially stress. Thyroid deficiency symptoms result from low thyroid hormone compounded by nutrient & hormone deficiencies, bowel and liver toxicities which prevent absorption and activation of thyroid. Bone decline is caused by deficiencies of hormones, nutrients compounded by toxic overload such as acidity, heavy metals, and bowel toxins which prevent the absorption of nutrients. Skin aging is a result of deficiencies of collagen builders such as estrogen, DHEA, growth hormone, thyroid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, amino-peptides and others. Almost all skin cells are maintained by a combination of hormones and nutrients.

So whether we aim to cure or prevent a symptom or a disease, the basic 5 areas must be addressed: establish a healthy, enabling mind, correct deficiencies (of hormones and nutrients), remove toxicities and get the body pain-free and strong. By reestablishing this balance we achieve optimal cellular function, so the cells of the body can keep us healthy.

Our current “Disease” based medical system gives you a pill for high blood pressure, a bypass for a heart attack, chemotherapy for cancer. But once the bypass is complete and once the cancer is removed, you are still left with the underlying imbalances that allowed the plaque or the cancer to develop in the first place. The key to anti-aging & functional medicine is to help restore balance and optimize your quality of life.
